Receptor-ligand diffusion-limited reaction rates on curved membranes

چکیده
We provide an expression for the diffusion-limited reaction rate on a curved surface, or membrane, in perturbative deformation regime. This result is applied to specific case of calculating receptor-ligand association at membrane deforming, transmembrane receptor proteins, inclusions. The dynamics mechanochemical coupling between chemical activity and local curvature further investigated, effect thermal fluctuations also discussed. It found inclusions, that their concomitant rates can be typically reduced by as much 20% due locally induced geometry.

Effective reaction rates for diffusion-limited reaction cycles.
Biological signals in cells are transmitted with the use of reaction cycles, such as the phosphorylation-dephosphorylation cycle, in which substrate is modified by antagonistic enzymes. An appreciable share of such reactions takes place in crowded environments of two-dimensional structures, such as plasma membrane or intracellular membranes, and is expected to be diffusion-controlled. In this w...
متن کاملDiffusion-Limited Aggregation on Curved Surfaces
We develop a general theory of transport-limited aggregation phenomena occurring on curved surfaces, based on stochastic iterated conformal maps and conformal projections to the complex plane. To illustrate the theory, we use stereographic projections to simulate diffusionlimited-aggregation (DLA) on surfaces of constant Gaussian curvature, including the sphere (K > 0) and pseudo-sphere (K < 0)...
متن کاملA Diffusion-Limited Reaction
Fluctuations in diffusion-controlled reactions lack the necessary features for a mesoscopic description. We show how the correlations dominate the dynamics by juxtaposing the macroscopic dynamics of a cellular automaton model for the diffusion-controlled limit to the deterministic diffusion-reaction rate equation for the same reaction. A more detailed N-body master equation is then presented in...
متن کاملReaction rates for reaction-diffusion kinetics on unstructured meshes.
The reaction-diffusion master equation is a stochastic model often utilized in the study of biochemical reaction networks in living cells. It is applied when the spatial distribution of molecules is important to the dynamics of the system. A viable approach to resolve the complex geometry of cells accurately is to discretize space with an unstructured mesh. Diffusion is modeled as discrete jump...
متن کاملReaction rates for mesoscopic reaction-diffusion kinetics.
The mesoscopic reaction-diffusion master equation (RDME) is a popular modeling framework frequently applied to stochastic reaction-diffusion kinetics in systems biology. The RDME is derived from assumptions about the underlying physical properties of the system, and it may produce unphysical results for models where those assumptions fail. In that case, other more comprehensive models are bette...
